Over the past day, 242 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 27 people were killed and 266 injured. 20 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 15 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

18 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which two people were killed, and 20 more road users, including two children, needed medical help. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 69 accidents, 21 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 48 outside their area of operation, seven pedestrians were killed, and 65 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 16 underage pedestrians, nine of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

There were also 33 accidents involving minors, in which 33 young road users were injured, including five passengers and three motor vehicle drivers. Three child passengers died in one car accident.

So, in the Penza region, on 768 km of the federal highway M-5 Ural, a 29-year-old female passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane, where she collided with a truck. As a result of the accident, the motorist herself and her three young passengers were killed: a daughter born in 2016, who was transported in the front passenger seat, and two sons born in 2021 and 2026, who were in the seat behind the driver. All three minor passengers were transported in compliance with the necessary safety regulations: wearing child restraints and wearing seat belts.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists that the lives and health of their passengers depend entirely on their driving skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior.

"Refrain from risky driving, exceeding the permitted speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking, driving into oncoming traffic even in permitted areas and other dangerous maneuvers. Always leave yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. Don't be distracted by your young passengers while driving. Any actions with them should be performed by the driver only after the vehicle has stopped completely, otherwise loss of control over the road is inevitable," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

In the first half of April, 209 accidents involving child passengers occurred on Russian roads, in which nine were killed and 252 minors were injured, the department estimated.

According to the results of January-February 2026, the number of accidents involving victims on the roads of Russia decreased by 8.2% compared to the same period last year. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia on April 7, the number of people killed in road accidents during this period decreased by 13.2%, and the number of injured citizens decreased by 6.3%.
