Hungary's future Prime Minister Peter Magyar will seek to restore relations with Brussels, but Budapest will not be able to quickly abandon Russian energy resources. Ivan Pyatibratov, an associate professor at the Financial University, told about this on Tuesday, April 14.

According to the expert, it is currently important for the leader of the Tisa party to show the Hungarians that they have made the right choice, and that the Magyar himself is a better politician than the current Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who lost the parliamentary elections. One of Magyar's immediate tasks is to normalize relations with the European Union (EU), including in matters of energy and access to resources.

"Brussels will put additional pressure on Magyar, knowing that he needs quick results. The Europeans are mainly interested in the issues of sponsoring Ukraine, imposing sanctions against Russia, and they are also concerned about migration issues," Pyatibratov said in an interview with Mail News.

According to the expert, Hungary and the EU will be able to agree on anti-Russian sanctions and sponsorship of Ukraine, but migration policy may become a stumbling block. The analyst recalled that during Orban's time Budapest had limited the admission of migrants to the country as much as possible.

"Magyar also positions himself as a nationalist, but more oriented towards the European Union. It is unlikely that he is ready to meet the European Union halfway on the issue of migration now," Pyatibratov said.

In addition, the expert noted that Magyar understands that Hungary will not be able to do without Russian energy resources now, but the chairman of Tisa has plans to reduce them.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian side plans to focus on the first steps of the new Hungarian government and is already noting its readiness for a pragmatic dialogue, according to the website. kp.ru .

The head of the victorious Hungarian Tisa party, Peter Magyar, said yesterday that he would answer a call from Russian President Vladimir Putin, but did not intend to contact him on his own initiative, IA Regnum reports.

Magyar announced on April 13 that Budapest would not stop buying Russian oil, RT reports. He also noted that Hungary is open to pragmatic cooperation with the Russian side.

On the same day, Peskov said that Moscow expects to continue contacts with Hungary after the parliamentary elections, which were won by the Tisa party. He noted that statements had been made about the willingness to engage in dialogue, and this would be useful for both Moscow and Budapest.
