Over the past day, 233 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 23 people were killed and 270 injured. 14 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 14 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 60 accidents, 24 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 36 outside their area of operation, nine pedestrians were killed, and 52 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 17 underage pedestrians, nine of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

17 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 26 road users, including two children, required medical attention. Six bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

35 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 34 young road users, including nine passengers, were injured. One child, a pedestrian, was killed.

So, in Lipetsk, in the morning, a 21-year-old car driver, while passing a regulated intersection, ran over a 13-year-old teenager who was crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing on his way to school at a traffic light. The sixth grader died.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful on the roads of towns and cities, especially in the morning and evening. Drivers should take special care when approaching intersections and pedestrian crossings. It is recommended not to rush to "skip" them as quickly as possible, but, on the contrary, to slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to stop for pedestrians to pass. It is important not to rush to start driving even when the traffic light is clear. First, make sure that the crossing is completely free of foot traffic.

"In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminds pedestrians that they must cross the road at pedestrian crossings, underground or aboveground pedestrian crossings, and in their absence — at intersections along sidewalks or roadsides. If there is no crossing or intersection in the visible area, it is allowed to cross the road at right angles to the edge of the carriageway in areas without dividing lanes and fences where it is clearly visible in both directions. In places where traffic is regulated, pedestrians should be guided by the signals of a traffic controller or a pedestrian traffic light, and in the absence of one, a traffic light. Before starting to move, pedestrians should make sure that all vehicles have stopped, allowing them to pass, and the crossing is safe," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

According to the results of January-February 2026, the number of accidents involving victims on the roads of Russia decreased by 8.2% compared to the same period last year. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia on April 7, the number of people killed in road accidents during this period decreased by 13.2%, and the number of injured citizens decreased by 6.3%.
