Magyar rejected support for Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union
Hungary will not support Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union (EU). This was announced on April 13 by the leader of the Tisa party that won the parliamentary elections, Peter Magyar.
"We do not support Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU. For a country in a state of [conflict] to join the EU, it is impossible to conduct real negotiations, review numerous clusters of accession agreements, so I think it is not relevant now," Magyar said.
At the same time, he noted that most EU member states do not consider Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union possible. The leader of Tisa stressed that he would discuss the idea of a loan for Ukraine with EU leaders.
The newspaper Die Weltwoche reported on the same day that the EU was trapped by prematurely celebrating the defeat of the current Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the country's parliamentary elections. It was noted that the main obstacle in the EU-Magyar relations would be the Ukrainian issue, since the leader of Tisa is not a supporter of Ukraine.
On April 12, Magyar announced the victory of his party in the parliamentary elections. He also noted that together they managed to change Orban's system. At the same time, a tense situation remained on the streets of Budapest after the elections. In addition, an active reaction of residents to the preliminary voting results was recorded.
