Putin and Pezeshkian discussed U.S.-Iran talks by phone
During a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian assessed the Iranian-American talks held in Islamabad on April 11. This was announced by the Kremlin's press service on April 12.
"The Iranian President assessed the Iranian-American talks held in Islamabad on April 11 and expressed gratitude for the principled Russian position, including on international platforms, aimed at de-escalating the situation," the Kremlin website says.
Peseshkian also thanked for the humanitarian assistance provided by Russia to the Iranian people. The Kremlin also pointed out that the Iranian leader congratulated Vladimir Putin and all Orthodox Christians of Russia on Easter.
In turn, the Russian president stressed that Moscow is ready to continue to contribute to the search for political and diplomatic ways to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.
Negotiations between the United States and Iran took place on April 11. Later, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would resume attacks on the Islamic Republic in the event of a failure of negotiations in Islamabad on the settlement of the war.
Vice President of the United States Jay Dee Vance said on April 12 that the Iranian and American sides had not reached a common agreement during negotiations in Islamabad. According to Vance, the American side does not yet see Iran's readiness to abandon the development of nuclear weapons.
