Filming of the eight-episode historical drama "Detachment 731" about the events of 1945 on the eve of the Red Army offensive in Manchuria has begun in St. Petersburg. This was announced on April 12 by the press service of the Triix Media film company.

The series, based on real events, will show the story of the SMERSH reconnaissance and sabotage group, whose task was to discover a secret Japanese base for the production of bacteriological weapons, known as "Detachment 731". At the same time, the historical line of the multi-part film will resonate with modern events related to the conduct of the SVR.

"Historical memory is a special space that develops around us. And cinema is a unique phenomenon that visually shapes it through vivid examples of our history that should not be forgotten. The appeal to the story that will be shown in the serial film "Squad 731" is not just facts and events. This is evidence of our country's position in preventing crimes against humanity related to the development and use of bacteriological weapons, as well as in preserving the historical truth about crimes of this nature that have already been committed in order to prevent them in the future. It is very significant that the launch of the project takes place on the eve of the Memorial Day of the Victims of the Genocide of the Soviet People," said Elena Malysheva, head of the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation.

Before the start of the filming process, the project team went through a long stage of preparation. Historical documents were carefully studied in order to convey the atmosphere and details of the era in question as accurately as possible. In addition, an expedition to China took place during the preparatory period, where filming is also planned. In Russia, they will be held in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

"A lot of work has been done during the preparatory stage. I would like to mention the costume designers who worked to create authentic images reflecting the time and style. Consultations with relevant experts, including from China, were organized for this purpose. It is also particularly worth noting the excellent cast. We are currently facing a difficult filming period. There is a lot of excitement, but I hope that everything will work out for us. The project team is wonderful — I have already worked with many people before," said director of photography Armenak Nazikyan.

The film is being produced by the Triix Media film company with the support of the Institute for Internet Development (ANO IRI) and the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation as part of the No Statute of Limitations project.

On April 26, REN TV channel will present the premiere of the action-packed detective series "Rooks", which takes place in post-war Leningrad. In the story, the city is shaken by a series of mysterious murders, and the tracks lead to a man who turns out to be not who he claims to be.

On March 24, Medialogia presented on its website a Russian series rating consisting of the 100 most popular projects of the past year. The South Korean thriller "The Squid Game" took the first place with 42,861 points, the second place was taken by the American science fiction series "Stranger Things" (26,572 points), and the third place was taken by the Russian detective "Sled" (20,361 points).
