For Russians who are not ready to buy a car yet, the main barrier to purchase is the need for a simple but reliable car without unnecessary functions. This was the response of 45% of the participants in the survey conducted by <url>. The results were reviewed by Izvestia.
Other obstacles to buying a car among the respondents were unwillingness to overpay for unnecessary options (41%) and expectation of changes in market conditions (31%). At the same time, about half of these respondents admitted that if their car requires frequent maintenance, they would still consider buying another car.
As for potential buyers, for almost 50% of the respondents, one of the main reasons to postpone a purchase is a lack of information about new brands. 46% of respondents doubt the objective price-quality ratio of both new and used cars. At the same time, 47% emphasize that if a simple and affordable car appears on the market, they will definitely think about buying it.
Of the active buyers, almost 40% are sure that you need to buy a car here and now. When choosing a brand, every third customer pays more attention to it, and 47% are willing to consider a Chinese brand at a suitable price and characteristics. Despite the fact that the majority of respondents are wary of new brands, the main driver of trust in such brands is the real experience of those who have already made a purchase: 59% of respondents consider it critically important to study the experience of others. 54% of respondents are ready to purchase a Chinese car only through an authorized dealer, and half of the respondents consider only new cars from the showroom.
Experts noted that in 2024, 80% of Russians immediately considered the current year a bad time to buy, now only 45% think so. This is due to the fact that Chinese brands "already own a strong territory of rational choice," said the head of B2B marketing of Avto.<url>" Maria Kapitsa. 37% of respondents are ready to consider Chinese brands if they are satisfied with the characteristics and price, and 25% already believe that cars of brands from China can become a full-fledged replacement for familiar brands.
The day before, it was reported that 2.5 times more new German cars were sold in Russia in the first quarter of 2026 than in the same period last year. In total, almost 12.5 thousand brand cars from Germany were sold in January-March. As the expert explained, the high growth in registrations is due to the effect of a low base and the fear that it will soon become much more difficult to purchase such cars.
