70% of Russians surveyed will celebrate Easter.
Seven out of 10 Russians surveyed plan to celebrate Orthodox Easter. This was announced on April 10 by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM).
"The majority of our fellow citizens (seven out of 10) are going to celebrate Easter. It is more likely that those who consider themselves Orthodox, women and representatives of the older generation, as well as residents of small towns and Russians with high consumer opportunities will gather at the festive table on this day," says the material published according to the results of the survey.
According to VTsIOM, Easter is one of the main important holidays, along with Christmas, and ranks fourth in importance among Russians. After New Year's Eve, Victory Day and International Women's Day, Orthodox holidays have confidently become one of the most popular celebrations.
According to the study, the Siberian district turned out to be the most Orthodox, while the North Caucasian district was the least Orthodox. It is noted that Easter is currently preserved more as a culturally significant event, and its content is increasingly determined by family practices rather than religious discipline, which is mostly observed only by representatives of the older generation and women.
At the same time, such family traditions as egg coloring, baking cakes, and feasting are preserved. Temple visits, consecrations, and ritual forms of remembrance took a back seat. As for the observance of Great Lent by citizens before Easter, the severity index in this matter is only 14 points out of 100. At the same time, with age, the strictness of compliance increases to 21 points.
On April 11, a delegation from the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation will deliver the Holy Fire to Russia on Holy Saturday. Upon arrival, the foundation's delegation will deliver the flame to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior as part of the Patriarchal Easter Service.
