Ukrainians living in Poland were required to confirm their personal data in the Universal Electronic Population Registration System (Powszechny Elektroniczny System Ewidencji Ludności — PESEL). This was announced on April 9 by the Telegram channel of the publication "Country.ua" with reference to the office of the Ombudsman.

According to the report, Ukrainians who did not present their passport when applying for a PESEL identification number, as well as whose personal data changed after arriving in the country, must confirm their identity. Ukrainians need to contact the local administration and present a valid passport by August 31.

If the conditions are not met, they may be deprived of refugee status, as well as the right to reside, work and receive social services in the country, the newspaper writes.

The PESEL UKR special identification number was introduced in Poland in 2022 to legalize the arrival of Ukrainians. It establishes the right to receive temporary protection and benefits.

A representative of the local police reported on March 26 that refugees from Ukraine often become victims of fraudulent crimes committed by their fellow citizens in Poland.

On December 28, 2025, the US Department of Homeland Security announced that migrants from Ukraine ranked first in the "Worst of the Worst" anti—rating among criminals from former Soviet countries. 27 citizens of Ukraine were entered into the database.
