Sales of new Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz rose sharply in Russia
In the first quarter of 2026, Russia recorded a sharp increase in sales of new cars from German brands, including Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, announced this in his Telegram channel on April 9.
So, in January –March, 2,773 new Mercedes-Benz passenger cars were registered in the Russian Federation, which is 82% more than in the same period last year (1,305 units). Immediately, 85% of the brand's cars delivered to the country were produced in China.
The most popular model remains the G-Class SUV (404 units), followed by the GLS, GLE and E-Class crossovers, as well as the GLC SUV (297 units).
Also, 3,361 new Volkswagen passenger cars were registered in the first quarter. This is 4.5 times more (+352%) than in January –March last year (743 units). 95% of them were produced in Chinese factories at once.
Volkswagen's bestseller in Russia is the Tiguan crossover (1,108 units), followed by the Tharu, Teramont, Tavendor and Talagon models.
High sales dynamics in Russia is also observed for other brands that are not officially represented in Russia. The day before, it was reported that in the first quarter of 2026, 2,339 new Audi cars were registered in the Russian Federation, which is 5.5 times more than in the same period last year.
In addition, sales of new BMW vehicles increased by 91% in the first quarter of this year, Toyota sales soared by 111%, and Mazda's performance increased almost 14 times in the quarter.
