A broken rail was found at the derailment site of a passenger train in the Ulyanovsk region. Kirill, a resident of Chelyabinsk, reported this on April 3.

"I get out, I see: the rail is broken, burst. There is a straight line of rail <...> there is no piece," he told RIA Novosti.

Kirill added that immediately after he helped other passengers get out of the cars, he contacted his relatives, who at that time still did not know about the incident.

The derailment of seven cars of passenger train No. 302 Moscow – Chelyabinsk was reported earlier in the day. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations informed Izvestia that there were no fatalities as a result of the derailment. The number of injured in the derailment increased to 24. One of the train cars caught fire, and the fire was extinguished. At the time of the derailment, the people on the train were asleep.

A criminal case has been opened into the incident under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of railway transport"). Russian Railways reported that 352 passengers of the train were taken to the Ulyanovsk-Tsentralny station. The rest will be brought in soon. Three temporary accommodation facilities have been prepared for them.
