Tensions between US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have begun to negatively affect the interaction of diplomats, officials and the military of the two countries. This was reported on March 31 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing informed sources.

According to the newspaper, the disagreements between the parties relate to policy towards Iran. Earlier, the American leader expressed disappointment with the position of the head of the British government due to his refusal to assist in the conflict with Tehran. At the same time, Trump compared the current prime minister to Winston Churchill, calling the latter great, but regretfully stated that Starmer is not Churchill.

The first cracks in U.S.-British security cooperation are emerging amid tensions between Trump and Starmer over Iran, which are undermining the working relationship between diplomats, officials and military personnel.

According to the FT source, after Trump's return to the White House, the British side took longer to coordinate requests for the use of its military facilities by American aircraft, including the Fairford Air Force Base in Gloucestershire. Previously, such applications were approved automatically, but now London has become more picky, which has created additional tension in the system.

British diplomats also had to adapt to the new management structure in Washington. Traditional communication channels have narrowed, and access to decision-making now largely depends on a narrow circle of close advisers to the US president.

At the same time, official London insists that the principles of the kingdom's security policy have remained unchanged. One of the British officials stressed that the embassy in Washington maintains strong day-to-day working relations with American colleagues and has direct access to the center of the management system in the United States.

On March 22, Trump posted a video with a parody of Starmer on the Truth Social network. The parody was made as part of the Saturday Night Live UK show. There, Starmer allegedly tries to call Trump to deny the United States the right to send more ships to the Strait of Hormuz. The moment "Trump" picks up the phone, the "British Prime Minister" screams in fear and puts the phone back down.

On March 24, The New York Times reported that the British Prime Minister had disappointed Trump over his position on Iran. It is noted that Starmer continues to have private conversations with the American president, but it is unclear how much influence he has.
