Miller called the level of gas reserves in European UGS critically low
The level of gas reserves in the underground storage facilities of the European Union (EU) can be described as critically low for modern Europe. This was announced on March 30 by Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller.
"The level of gas reserves in the EU's storage facilities can be described as critically low for modern Europe. On the same date in 2025, it was at 33.5%, and in 2024 — 58.7%," Gazprom quoted him as saying in the Telegram channel.
Miller suggests that reserves in European underground gas storage facilities (UGS) may not reach 70% by the beginning of next season.
It is noted that a number of EU countries continue to consume gas from storage facilities. At the same time, the storage facilities of Germany, France and the Netherlands are filled by an average of only 17.4%, and about 5.3% of gas reserves remain in UGS facilities in the Netherlands, which is the lowest in history.
On March 23, the European Commission called on EU countries to start the gas injection season now due to the crisis amid the conflict over Iran. The EC believes that Europe's energy security remains protected due to the lack of imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Middle East, which supplied oil through the Strait of Hormuz before the conflict. But timely preparation, as stated in the document, is crucial to ensure that the storage facilities are sufficiently filled by next winter.
Gazprom announced on March 14 that the level of reserves in European underground gas storage facilities (UGS) had reached its lowest level since the beginning of the season. The company noted that all the gas pumped into Europe's UGS facilities in preparation for winter was taken away in February. Now there is a selection process from the reserves of previous years.
