Dmitriev compared the EU's reaction to the energy crisis with a delayed alarm clock
On March 28, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), compared European countries' ignoring of the energy crisis to an attempt to postpone the ringing of a loud alarm clock.
In his opinion, the European Union is not yet ready to effectively solve the problems that have arisen.
"After a month, awareness of the energy crisis in the EU is gradually beginning to reach people. It's like someone pressing the "postpone" button on a deafeningly loud alarm clock - they are well aware that the problem exists, but they are not ready to deal with it yet," Dmitriev wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
In addition, the Russian official criticized the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) for the delay in publishing analytical materials. Dmitriev pointed to the publication's too-late forecasts that the energy crisis could destabilize markets.
Dmitriev said on March 26 that Europe and the UK would beg Russia to restore oil and gas supplies. According to him, the West has exposed itself by refusing to supply domestic resources.
