Since the beginning of the military operation in Iran, American troops have fired more than 850 Tomahawk cruise missiles at targets in the Islamic Republic, which is why the Pentagon has begun to worry about too rapid a reduction in stocks of such expensive weapons. The Washington Post (WP) wrote about this on March 27, citing sources familiar with the situation.

The publication pointed out that the active use of missiles with a range of 1.6 thousand km urgently required discussing the possibility of transferring such weapons from other regions of the world, including the Indo-Pacific region, and coordinating long-term efforts to produce them.

Only a few hundred such missiles are produced annually in the USA, WP writes. One of the officials pointed out in an interview with the publication that the number of Tomahawk missiles remaining in the Middle East is now "alarmingly low." According to another, their supply in the region is almost exhausted.

On March 13, the Financial Times newspaper also pointed out that the administration of US President Donald Trump had used up stocks of critical ammunition accumulated over several years during the two weeks of conflict with Iran. It was about Tomahawk cruise missiles, each of which costs about $3.6 million. It was noted that in five years, the Pentagon had purchased only 322 such missiles, and in the first 100 hours of the war alone, 168 Tomahawks were used.
