Russia cannot discuss lifting illegal sanctions, as they do not exist for Moscow and its partners. This was announced on March 26 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with France Television.

"We cannot even discuss issues related to the lifting of illegal sanctions. They do not exist for us, as well as for our conscientious, respectable partners," he said during an interview published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Lavrov clarified that many of the US and European Union (EU) sanctions are illegal, so Russia did not follow them before.

On March 26, US President Donald Trump extended some sanctions against Russia for a year. These include restrictions introduced by decree of April 15, 2021 and later tightened. The document mentions the activities of the Russian Federation abroad as reasons.
