Oleg Mitvol, the former deputy head of Rosprirodnadzor, who was released from prison where he served his sentence for committing multimillion-dollar embezzlement during the construction of the metro in Krasnoyarsk, has valuable information on a new criminal case. He told about it on March 26 in an interview with Izvestia.

"We are talking about the theft of a huge amount of property and software products worth tens of billions of rubles. <...> There is a criminal part to this case. <...> I hope that people who stole so much money from the budget and committed a criminal offense will generally receive a proper assessment by the court," he said.

Mitvol sent the first claim in the aforementioned case to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation back in 2016. Then the former deputy head of Rosprirodnadzor notified the authority about the crimes committed by a certain group of influential people, so when a year ago he was notified about the resumption of the investigation initiated by him, he was delighted. According to him, the association in question includes a person who has a deputy status.

Mitvol said that in 1998, one of the unnamed officials "sold" the position of director of one of the organizations, which caused it to go bankrupt in five years. The person who held the top position was, according to the Izvestia interlocutor, in collusion with the civil servant with whom he committed the thefts.

"I am pleased to say that <...> on February 20, the Nikulinsky Court of Moscow decided to seize all this stolen property for state revenue. <...> In that story, I simply have the most valuable information on the circumstances of the theft," he said.

Mitvol, who was also the prefect of the Northern Administrative District of Moscow from 2009 to 2010, was arrested four years ago — in 2022 — and released on March 24 this year.

During his time in prison, the former deputy head of Rosprirodnadzor read 150 books and made plans for the future - now Mitvol sees himself as a lawyer.
