Former Rosprirodnadzor Deputy Mitvol read 150 books in custody
Oleg Mitvol, the former deputy head of Rosprirodnadzor, who served his sentence for participating in a fraudulent scheme during the construction of the metro in Krasnoyarsk, read about 150 books while in prison. Mitvol himself informed Izvestia about this on March 26.
Lawyer Mikhail Sholokhov had previously announced that his client was being held as a witness in a new embezzlement case.
"There is a check, Mitvol is a participant in the check, but not in the context of the culprit (criminal). He gave explanations about the events, but questions were of an informational nature, and not as a person who had committed a crime. In other words, a witness to the events," said the defender.
Mitvol, who was also the ex-prefect of the Northern Administrative District of Moscow from 2009 to 2010, was arrested back in 2022. It was noted that the theft was committed by him during the construction of the metro in Krasnoyarsk. In the fall of 2025, the court denied the accused early release and did not grant his request for a reduced sentence.
Mikhail Sholokhov, the lawyer of the former minister, informed Izvestia on March 24 that Mitvol had been released. The defender said that the first thing the man did was visit his 88-year-old mother. Now he intends to seek a retrial.
