British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has allowed the Military to detain Russian vessels under sanctions in British waters. This was announced on March 26 on the website of the government of the country.

"The Prime Minister agreed that the British armed forces and law enforcement officers will now be able to intercept vessels under UK sanctions and passing through British waters," the statement said.

It is noted that the UK will restrict access to the English Channel. This will force operators and owners of vessels to send them on a longer and more expensive route, otherwise they will face detention and criminal proceedings for violating sanctions.

On March 23, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the situation in the oceans as a result of the actions of Western countries systematically violates the principles of freedom of navigation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the European Union (EU) coined the term "shadow fleet", which does not exist in international maritime law, in order to reduce Russian revenues from foreign trade.
