- The political scientist ruled out a US military escalation against Cuba in the near future.
No serious military escalation by the United States against Cuba should be expected in the near future. This opinion was expressed by American political scientist Malek Dudakov on Monday, March 23.
He noted that the Americans had to pull their military group from the Caribbean to the Middle East, including destroyers and the Gerald Ford aircraft carrier strike group, and they do not plan to return to this region in the near future.
"Accordingly, the US military capabilities to put pressure on the Caribbean countries are now extremely limited. We remember the operation against Venezuela, how it was prepared for a long time. They began to pull troops there in August 2025, the operation was carried out only in January," the expert shared in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
He added that if US President Donald Trump plans something similar with regard to Cuba, it will happen after many months of long preparation. Dudakov noted that American military resources are currently being "burned" as part of the war with Iran, so Trump has now taken a wait-and-see attitude towards Cuba.
"The naval blockade continues, and Cuba has serious problems with fuel and food. Trump hopes that this will lead to the collapse of the Cuban economy, to mass protests and to the Cubans themselves overthrowing their government without the direct participation of the United States," the expert said, adding that if this does not happen, then the administration of the American leader will face a choice: either directly engage militarily, or to try to negotiate with the Cuban authorities on favorable terms for the United States.
According to Dudakov, the Americans are still hoping for a split within the Cuban elite, but so far there is no sign of any fall in power in the country in the near future.
On the eve of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the republic, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, said that the Cuban armed forces began to prepare in case of possible aggression from the United States, RT reports.
The minister stressed that it would be naive to ignore the possibility of conflict, given the current situation in the world, IA Regnum reports. At the same time, he noted that the Cuban leadership sincerely hopes to avoid a military clash, writes Life.Ru .
Magomed Kodzoev, a senior researcher at the Institute of Latin America (ILA) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said on March 18 that in the event of the outbreak of hostilities against Cuba, the United States could face unpleasant consequences for itself. On the same day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the material about the alleged US plans to oust Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel from his post, which was published in The New York Times, was fake.
An NYT article about the White House's plans to oust Diaz-Canel was published on March 17. Trump said he considered it an honor to take Cuba, which he threatened with an "unfriendly seizure" on March 9, under control.
