Ukraine has demanded another €5.5 billion from the European Union (EU) to prepare for next winter. This was announced on March 19 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.

"The minister stated that the Hungarian Ambassador in Kiev had just informed him that the Prime Minister of Ukraine had convened a meeting of the heads of EU foreign policy missions, at which he requested additional €5.5 billion to prepare Ukraine for the next winter," the Hungarian Telegraphic Agency (MTI) reports.

It is noted that Hungary opposes the new financing until the Druzhba oil pipeline is operational. According to Szijjarto, the pipeline is already suitable for transporting crude oil. According to him, the suspension of supplies is an exclusively political decision.

"They are engaged in political blackmail of Hungary and are trying to interfere in the elections," Szijjarto said.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also said on March 19 that he had not succumbed to blackmail at the EU summit. He commented on the refusal of Hungary and Slovakia to support the EU's €90 billion military financing project for Ukraine for 2026-2027.
