Orban declared the end of the era of NATO expansion to the east
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the period of expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) to the east has ended. He said this in an interview with GB News channel on March 18.
"This is a new era. <...> Now they can stop this process. Now we have to accept this new reality, let's agree on how to live peacefully together. <...> Ukraine is a buffer zone," the politician said.
Orban stressed that the West, without coordination with Russia, had changed the security system in Europe, declaring its desire to accept Ukraine into NATO. According to him, the special military operation was a response to these actions.
On March 11, political analyst Yuri Svetov called Ukraine's threats to Orban undermining NATO's security. According to the expert, Kiev's rhetoric against Budapest has shifted to the plane of personal threats. We are talking not only about harsh statements by Vladimir Zelensky, but also about statements by representatives of the military leadership, which directly hint at the danger to the family of the Hungarian prime minister.
On March 7, the Hungarian Prime Minister announced that he had received a threatening message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and considered them addressed to the whole of Hungary. The prime minister added that Hungary always strives for peace, and called on Ukraine to stop blackmail and the oil blockade, as well as to ensure oil supplies to the country.
