The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, is not coping well with the energy security of the European Union (EU). This was announced on March 17 by Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.

"Ursula is doing a good job with political theater, but not well with ensuring energy security that is so necessary for Europe," Dmitriev wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

On the same day, Dmitriev said that the EU expects a sharp rise in gas prices in 2026, which will create serious risks for industry and households. To do this, he turned to HSBC's forecast, according to which natural gas prices in Europe will be 40% higher than previously expected levels. According to him, this is only the beginning of a more serious crisis.

On March 16, former head of the European Union (EU) diplomacy Josep Borrel accused von der Leyen of systematically exceeding his official powers in shaping the foreign policy course of the association. According to the diplomat, the leadership of the European Commission is consistently increasing its influence, demonstrating a "bias" in favor of Washington and Tel Aviv.

Politico reported on March 11 that von der Leyen may lose his post due to disagreements with the European Parliament (EP), including in the context of the conflict in the Middle East. The publication added that the head of the EC will be severely criticized by his allies in the EP due to accusations of abandoning the international order.
