Lavrov pointed to the misconception of the United States and Israel about the rapid operation in Iran.

The leaders of the United States and Israel, who planned to launch a quick attack on Iran and conquer the Islamic Republic in a day, are beginning to realize how wrong they were. On March 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed this out during a joint press conference with the Kenyan Foreign Minister.

"If they expected that they would achieve the task of completely subjugating this state in a day, in a few hours, then they probably already realize how wrong they were, how mistaken they were," the Russian Foreign minister noted.

Such an unprovoked aggression could not remain without reaction, Lavrov said. Therefore, the Iranian authorities are defending themselves by responding to attacks on the infrastructure of the attacking countries in their region. And unfortunately, the states, including the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf (GCC countries), are suffering.

The Minister noted that all parties to the conflict in the Middle East must stop actions that lead to civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova added on March 12 that Russia confirms Iran's right to self-defense and calls on the United States and Israel to stop the aggression. She also noted that Moscow assessed the "extremely difficult" humanitarian situation in the region, where there are already more than a thousand victims in Iran.

On March 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Bahraini counterpart Abdel Latyf al-Zayani called for the end of hostilities around Iran, and also stressed the need to launch the negotiation process. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the topic of Iran's demands to the United States to resume negotiations was not raised during the talks.
