- Putin expressed his condolences to the Ethiopian authorities in connection with the consequences of the floods
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to the Ethiopian authorities in connection with the consequences of landslides and floods in the south of the country. The corresponding telegram was published on March 16 on the Kremlin's website.
"Please accept my deep condolences in connection with the tragic consequences of the landslides and floods that occurred in the south of your country," the message says.
The Russian leader asked to convey words of sympathy and support to the families of the victims, and wishes to all the injured to recover as soon as possible.
On March 12, Reuters reported at least 70 deaths as a result of landslides that struck the southern Gamo zone in Ethiopia early last week. The search for the dead and injured was complicated by the risk of further landslides, as the rains did not stop.
At the end of January, it became known that at least 49 people were killed in a landslide in Indonesia, 15 people were reported missing. It was clarified that among the dead were 23 soldiers who were then on border patrol exercises.
