As a result of the US and Israeli strikes in Iran, 56 museums and historical monuments were damaged. This was announced on March 15 by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage of the Islamic Republic.
"As a result of this military attack, at least 56 museums, historical monuments and cultural sites in Tehran and various provinces of the country were seriously damaged," the IRNA news agency quoted the text of the message in its Telegram channel.
Most of the facilities, 19, were damaged in Tehran. These include the Golestan Palace, the historic citadel of Tehran, the historic bazaar of Tehran, the marble palace, the historic police building and others.
The Ministry recalled that, according to the provisions of the Hague Convention, the parties to the conflict undertake to protect cultural property even in the conditions of hostilities.
On March 14, Iranian Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Zahra Behrouz-Azar reported damage to over 9.6 thousand civilian objects during attacks by the United States and Israel. She added that 32 medical centers, 65 schools and 13 Red Crescent centers were attacked.
