The European Union (EU) will not be able to resolve the large-scale energy crisis without resuming Russian oil supplies, and therefore Brussels needs to lift sanctions against the Russian energy sector. This was announced on March 14 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

The politician noted that the situation in the Middle East has exacerbated the shortage of raw materials and provoked a sharp jump in fuel prices in Europe. At the same time, he pointed out the inconsistency of the Western allies.

"Europe cannot overcome the energy crisis without cheap Russian oil, but their sanctions remain in force," Orban wrote on his social network X (ex. Twitter).

Earlier in the day, Orban stated that it was impossible to overcome the energy crisis without energy supplies from the Russian Federation. He noted that Europeans are tolerating rising energy prices, and industry is collapsing in the region.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said on March 13 that it was impossible to overcome the global energy crisis without Russian energy.

On March 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting on the situation on the global oil and gas market, said that Russia was ready to work with the Europeans on energy supplies, but signals of their readiness were needed. He clarified that the state may decide to transfer energy supplies from the European market to "more interesting areas" without expecting Europe itself to "demonstratively slam the door" on this initiative.
