The Shiveluch volcano began an eruption in Kamchatka
The Shiveluch volcano has erupted in Kamchatka. This was announced on March 13 in the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences" (FITTS YGS RAS).
"On March 13, 2026, at 22:05 (13:05 Moscow time), the Shiveluch volcano erupted with an ash discharge height of up to 8 thousand meters above sea level," the Telegram channel says.
It is specified that the ash cloud headed towards the Bering Sea in a Northeasterly direction. According to the press service, eyewitnesses reported the sounds of an explosion from the volcano.
On February 2, the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka spewed ash to an altitude of about 6 km above sea level.
On February 23, the press service of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEB RAS) reported that the white snow in Kamchatka turned gray after the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano. The institution has published in the Telegram channel pictures and videos depicting the surroundings of the volcano.
