The Republic of Finland has no plans to become a nuclear power, but it should be a full-fledged member of NATO without any restrictions. This was announced on March 13 by the President of this country, Alexander Stubb.

"Finland does not need nuclear weapons in peacetime. No one suggested that Finland should bring nuclear weapons to its territory," the Yle TV channel quoted him as saying.

The Finnish leader said that his country's defense is based on the collective defense of the entire North Atlantic Alliance, whose "deterrence system" consists of a complex of missile forces, armed forces and nuclear weapons. According to him, further decisions on the designated topic are now in the hands of the government.

Stubb noted that Russia does not pose an immediate military threat to Finland.

Finland's plans to lift the ban on nuclear weapons transit through its territory became known on March 4. The discussions, as specified, were conducted within the framework of Finland's accession to NATO and the allegedly recorded aggravation of the geopolitical situation. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on this information on March 6, warned that Finland would pose a threat to Russia, which in turn would be forced to take appropriate measures. On the same day, the Daily Express (DE) tabloid stated that Moscow's reaction to Helsinki's actions had scared Western countries. It was noted that Britain recalled that the Russian Federation, unlike Finland, has one of the world's largest nuclear arsenals.
