Due to the U.S. energy blockade, about 100,000 Cubans are waiting for surgery, including more than 10,000 children. This was announced on March 13 by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

"There are a total of 96,387 patients on the waiting list for surgical treatment in the country, of which 11,193 are children. Under the current energy constraints, these numbers are growing," Cibercuba quoted Diaz—Canel as saying.

He clarified that the health care system on the island is forced to postpone operations in order to give priority to cancer treatment.

On March 9, American leader Donald Trump threatened Cuba with an "unfriendly seizure." In addition, Trump added that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is holding talks with the Cuban side.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova considers unacceptable attempts to create obstacles to international cooperation with Cuba. She clarified that difficult times have come for the people inhabiting this Latin American island nation. Therefore, Moscow, she added, will provide them with assistance "to the extent necessary."
