- Lavrov expressed concern about the growing global tension on the issue of nuclear weapons.
Tensions on the world stage could rise any day, especially over nuclear testing. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting with Interim Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Robert Floyd on March 13.
"Tensions can increase any day, <...> including on issues related to nuclear tests, which relate to the injection of information into the media space, which excite many countries and create the feeling that nuclear nonproliferation is about to be exposed not only to risks, but almost to destruction," Lavrov said.
The Minister spoke with Floyd at the annual conference on non-proliferation of weapons and arms control. The Foreign Minister separately thanked the Secretary of the CTBTO Security Council for the non-politicization of the organization's work. According to Lavrov, many international structures succumb to the temptation to "play politics."
On March 3, Lavrov said that the risk of nuclear nonproliferation problems getting out of control is currently growing. At the same time, Lavrov recalled the words of French President Emmanuel Macron about Paris' intention to use nuclear weapons to protect its interests, including outside the country.
