In a telephone conversation between the G7 leaders, US President Donald Trump told British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that America no longer needs British bases to conduct a military operation against Iran. This was reported on March 13 by the Axios portal, citing an unnamed source.

Axios noted that the conversation took place on March 11. Other leaders of the G7 countries also took part in it.

"You should have suggested it before the war. Now it's too late," the resource quotes Trump as saying.

On March 8, Trump caustically commented on Britain's intentions to send two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. The US president said at the time that British aid had arrived too late, and that the days when the United Kingdom was the closest ally of the United States were over.

The US president said on Tuesday, March 3, that he was dissatisfied with the quality of military cooperation with the UK. He criticized the current British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, noting that he was "not Winston Churchill" in his approach to transatlantic ties.
