In practical classes at driving schools, such basic car handling skills as self-refueling at a gas station, oil level control and tire pressure must be practiced. This was stated by Valery Goryukhanov, a member of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Transport Infrastructure Development, TASS reported on March 12.

At the same time, according to Goryukhanov, there is no practical point in "turning every graduate of a driving school into an auto mechanic," since modern cars are technically complex and require professional maintenance.

He pointed out that the main threat on motorways in case of a minor malfunction of the car is the driver's incorrect actions after an emergency stop.

Goryukhanov noted that it is important for driving schools to focus on practicing the driver's actions in case of a breakdown: safely remove the car from the lane, correctly set up an emergency stop sign, use a reflective vest and place passengers off the roadway. A similar educational program for minor car repairs can be introduced in driving schools as an additional option, he suggested.

On March 1, new rules for driver's license training came into force in Russia, according to which the use of remote technologies and an increase in driving hours will be provided. A package of 47 sample training, retraining and advanced training programs was approved.
