Yuri Varakin, Adviser to the Director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, told what kind of weather is expected in Moscow and the Moscow region in the coming week.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, March 11, the expert noted that the weather in the region was abnormally warm for the beginning of March — the temperature exceeds the norm by 7-8 degrees, and the active melting of snow creates a feeling of real spring.

According to Varakin, the meteorological spring in the region has arrived 7-10 days earlier than usual. Temperatures are already approaching record levels and in the coming days, daily highs may be repeated or even beaten.

At the same time, the forecaster noted, despite the active melting, the snow cover still exceeds the climatic norm by about one and a half times. The warming will continue in the coming days, and so far there are no prerequisites for the return of cold weather.

Earlier on March 11, Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather center, said that despite the warm weather that had come to Moscow, the snowdrifts were melting slowly. Over the past day, the height of the snow cover in the capital has decreased by only 2-3 cm, according to the website kp.ru . On Wednesday, March 11, the height of snowdrifts in the Moscow region ranges from 33 cm to 63 cm, clarifies 360.ru . By the end of the week, snowmelt will continue in the range of 3-6 cm per day, writes the Moscow City News agency.

Also on March 11, the temperature in Moscow reached +10 degrees for the first time since the beginning of the year. This indicator was recorded at the VDNKh base weather station.

Earlier in the day, Alexander Ilyin, a forecaster at the Meteo forecasting center, told RT that the weather in Moscow would be warm and sunny in the coming week. The maximum daytime temperatures will be in the range of +5...+10 degrees. 0...+2 degrees is expected at night during this period. In some areas of the Moscow region, there may still be a slight negative.

The day before, Ilyin said that the warm weather in the capital will last until March 17, after which there will be a slight decrease in temperature in the capital. However, as the forecaster noted, a sharp and severe cold snap will not occur, writes RIAMO.

In February, Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti portal, said that the snow cover in the capital region could remain until Easter. According to her, in the second half of the month, the temperature can steadily turn into a plus. However, for active snowmelt, it is necessary that it stays above zero for a long time and approaches +5 degrees, NSN notes.
