Spring in 2026 promises to be long and cool. According to forecasters, even if the temperature starts to rise on time, due to the huge masses of snow, Russians will not see truly spring landscapes soon. What kind of weather to expect in the spring is in the Izvestia article.

Weather in spring 2026 in Moscow

The beginning of March will delight Muscovites with warming: in the afternoon it is expected from +3 to +5 degrees. Nevertheless, according to Anatoly Tsygankov, head of the Department of Crisis Management at the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, the arrival of spring may be delayed.

— Under normal conditions, spring comes on March 25 – April 10. This year, given the amount of snow, early spring is not expected. The snow will melt slowly. A cold snap is also possible after March 8," he said in an interview with Izvestia.

Tsygankov warns: until all the snow melts, there is a danger of icy conditions. Motorists should be especially vigilant on the roads.

According to forecasters, Moscow is expecting a spring flood after the last record snowfall.

"Given the unprecedented height of the snow cover, the area of the capital and the autumn waterlogging of the land (in October and November, precipitation in Moscow fell by 25-43% more than normal), it can be assumed that such a huge amount of snow corresponds to about 5 million cubic meters — that's how much water Moscow will take in during the upcoming snowmelt," wrote a leading specialist at the weather center. "Phobos" Evgeny Tishkovets in his Telegram channel.

The forecaster believes that so much snow will melt in temperate March and warm April. Evgeny Tishkovets compared this volume to 2,000 Olympic swimming pools or the height of a 50-storey skyscraper filled with water.

Weather in spring 2026 in the regions

An unusually snowy winter promises serious floods this spring. The Urals and Siberia are experiencing abnormal cold weather, and it's too early to talk about an imminent warming, according to forecaster Anatoly Tsygankov.

According to Yandex.Weather conditions", in the first half of March in Siberia and the Urals it will be frosty in winter. In Novosibirsk and Omsk, the temperature can drop to -10... -15 degrees at night, and during the day the thermometer is unlikely to rise above -2 ... -6 degrees. In April, a natural warming is expected: at night the temperature will be -3 ... +4, and during the day — from +4 to +13 degrees. In May, the average daily value will be +17 degrees.

It will be snowy in the Volga region in early spring, with daytime temperatures reaching about -3... -6 degrees. Warming should be expected only by the 20th of March. April will be marked by rains and daytime temperatures from +3 to +14 degrees. In May, the rains will continue, and the upper mark of the thermometer will be around +19 degrees.

The first month of spring in snow-covered Kamchatka will be contrasting: temperatures will range from -14 degrees at night to 0 degrees during the day. April will bring precipitation and warming to +4 degrees. May will be rainy, and the daytime temperature will range from +5 to +10 degrees.

In April, the temperature regime in the European territory of Russia, with the exception of Komi and Astrakhan region, is expected to be within the climatic norm or slightly above it. Similar indicators are predicted for most of the Urals.

As for the Asian part of the country, weather forecasters are more restrained in their assessments: in Siberia, most of Yakutia, the Khabarovsk Territory, the Amur Region, as well as in the north of Transbaikalia and Buryatia, thermometer columns are likely not to exceed the annual average, and in some places they will even be a degree lower. In the rest of the Asian part of the country, on the contrary, the temperature will be above normal.

According to the seasonal forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center, in May the contrasts in the temperature regime between different territories of the country will increase. The most noticeable warmth is expected in the south: in the Southern and North Caucasian Federal districts, in the south of the Volga region, as well as in a number of regions of Central Russia and in the west of the Northwestern District - where the air will warm up above the climatic norm.

At the same time, in the Urals, in most of the Volga and Northwestern districts, as well as almost all of Yakutia, the thermometer columns, on the contrary, will not exceed the average values, and in some places will be slightly lower. In Siberia and the Far East (excluding Yakutia) May will be warmer, and annual averages are expected to exceed.

Despite the pessimistic forecast, expert Tsygankov comforts: "Warming will not come soon, but it will definitely happen!"
