The election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new leader of Iran has united the elites of the Islamic Republic and demonstrates their commitment to the previously chosen political course in all respects. This was reported to Izvestia on March 9 by political analyst Pavel Seleznev.

He stressed that there was no confrontation, internal conflicts and showdowns between the elites of the Islamic Republic, which the United States and Israel had hoped for.

"The election of the new supreme leader of the country took place as a result of a unanimous vote, which indicates that in the face of an external enemy, the elites of the Islamic Republic of Iran turned out to be very united. The fact that the son of the late supreme leader has been elected means that the course previously taken by the country in all senses and relationships will be continued," Seleznev said.

According to him, Mojtaba Khamenei is known for an even tougher and more conservative course compared to his father and predecessor Ali Khamenei. He also noted that during his lifetime, the former ayatollah considered the option of transferring power to his son.

In particular, the political scientist drew attention to the fact that the swearing-in ceremony for the new supreme leader of Iran, which will take place on March 9 in the central square of Tehran, demonstrates the unity of the country's people and elites, their commitment to the chosen course and the absence of fear due to possible provocations and attempts to launch military strikes.

The Council of Experts appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader of Iran on Sunday, March 8. He was elected to this position by a unanimous decision of the Council and became the third supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. US President Donald Trump commented on the election of the new supreme leader of Iran with the words "let's see what happens."

On March 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on his election as the new supreme leader of Iran. He expressed confidence that the new leader will honorably continue the work of his father Ali Khamenei and will be able to unite the Iranian people in the face of harsh trials. Putin also confirmed Moscow's support for Tehran and solidarity with Iranian friends.
