Germany is conducting strategic consultations with France on nuclear deterrence, but it does not intend to acquire its own nuclear potential. This was announced on March 7 at the German Embassy in Moscow.

The diplomatic mission noted that Berlin is discussing with Paris the strengthening of the European component of NATO.

"The German government is conducting strategic consultations with France, including on the topic of nuclear deterrence. At the same time, Germany invariably adheres to its legal obligations and, as before, does not seek to create its own nuclear potential," the diplomatic mission stressed, the text of the statement is quoted by TASS.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on March 4 that NATO was strengthening and increasing its nuclear potential, which it could use in a possible conflict against Russia. According to her, France's statements about building up its nuclear potential are a hostile step that destabilizes the development of events.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on March 3 that the risk of nuclear nonproliferation problems getting out of control is currently growing. At the same time, he recalled the words of French President Emmanuel Macron about Paris' intention to use nuclear weapons to protect its interests, including outside the country.
