- Al Hadath called the purpose of the IDF operation in Lebanon the removal of the remains of Ron Arad.
One of the goals of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operation in the Lebanese Republic was to recover the remains of navigator Ron Arad, who was captured in 1986. This was reported on March 7 by Al Hadath TV channel.
"Operation <...> (IDF. — Ed.) in the [valley] The Bekaa was sent to search for the remains of Ron Arad," reads a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to another Al Hadath article, IDF soldiers attempted to break into one of the cemeteries located in the designated area. They were forced to abort their mission due to the resistance they encountered.
Ron Arad was captured on October 16, 1986, after his F-4 Phantom aircraft was shot down over Lebanese territory, where it was heading for a combat mission. The pilot of the plane was picked up by a rescue helicopter, but Arad was not. Negotiations on his release were conducted for two years, but then broke off. Since then, the man has been missing.
On the same day, Al-Mayadeen TV channel reported on an Israeli attempt to land troops on the border of Syria and Lebanon. Later, the Iranian state television and Radio IRIB reported that the persons involved in the failed operation were disguised as soldiers of the Lebanese army. It was noted that they were exposed by local residents of the Bekaa.
