US President Donald Trump has allowed the option of sending American ground units to Iran if necessary to successfully complete a military operation. This is reported by Time magazine.

According to the publication, the American leader assesses the timing of the campaign as flexible, but emphasizes his determination to bring the matter to an end.

"Trump has not ruled out such a possibility. He stated that, in his opinion, the goals of the campaign can be achieved within four to five weeks, although he admits that the deadlines may be delayed. According to him, the war will continue until these goals are achieved," Time writes, referring to Trump's words in an interview with the magazine.

The journalists of the publication also note that Washington may be faced with the need to take drastic measures. If the Iranian authorities maintain stability or suppress internal protests, the United States "may face a decision that they previously tried to avoid — sending ground forces."

The head of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, Tom Cotton, said on March 1 that the primary goal of the military campaign against Iran is to eliminate its missile arsenal. According to the senator, the most likely scenario would be a "prolonged air and naval campaign" that could last days or even weeks. At the same time, the politician ruled out the possibility of conducting a large-scale ground operation.
