- Maltese authorities will study the area of attack on the Russian gas carrier Arctic Metagaz
Malta is studying the area of attack by a crewless boat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Russian gas carrier Arctic Metagaz. This was announced on March 5 by the Maltese Ambassador to Russia, Carmelo Inguanes.
"As for the damage to the marine environment, the Maltese authorities are still investigating the area," he told RTVI.
The Ambassador also confirmed that after the incident, the Maltese authorities immediately joined in the rescue of the people on board.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on March 4 that Moscow reserves the right to take political and diplomatic measures in connection with the attack on a Russian gas carrier in the Mediterranean Sea. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, called the strike on the gas carrier a terrorist attack.
The attack on the Russian gas carrier Arctic Metagaz near Malta was reported the day before. Later, the Russian Embassy reported that all 30 people who were on board the ship at the time of the attack were rescued by the efforts of the Russian and Maltese sides.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted on March 5 that Western countries are not even trying to hide Ukraine's involvement in the attack on the Arctic Metagaz gas carrier. He also called the Kiev authorities terrorists.
