Romanian citizen sentenced to 15 years for espionage in favor of Ukraine

The Krasnodar Regional Court has sentenced Romanian citizen Adrian-David Kercho to 15 years in a high-security penal colony for espionage in the interests of Ukraine. This was reported on March 5 in the press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory.

"In Krasnodar, a Romanian citizen was convicted of espionage in favor of Ukraine. The Krasnodar Regional Court announced the verdict against Adrian-David Kercho <...> In November 2024, he proactively contacted an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The Kerch court found him guilty of espionage," the report says.

It is clarified that the defendant did not support the policy of the Russian Federation, including the conduct of a special military operation. In November 2024, he contacted an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, wanting to assist the enemy.

The agency adds that Kercho announced his desire to join the ranks of the mercenaries of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), to which he received an offer to leave Russia in exchange for transmitting information about Russian military facilities. The defendant agreed, and since November 2024, he has collected and transmitted information about the geographical coordinates of the air defense system located in the city of Sochi.

All of them were engaged in intelligence and subversive activities on the territory of Russia.

On the same day, a resident of Crimea was detained, who was transmitting information to Ukraine about the locations of military personnel, weapons and equipment of the Russian army, which were then attacked. It is noted that the defendant established contact through the Telegram messenger with an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. He provided information about the locations of military personnel, weapons and equipment of the Russian Armed Forces, as well as information about the socio-political situation on the peninsula in order to destabilize the situation.
