Valentina Safronova, President of the Association of Russian Florists, told how to prolong the life of flowers in a vase.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, March 4, the florist noted that after the purchase, the stems must be cut at an angle of about 45 degrees, preferably with a knife rather than scissors, and put the flowers in a clean vase with fresh water, which should be changed regularly, updating the cut each time.

At the same time, the florist does not recommend adding sugar to the water, since the sweet environment accelerates the reproduction of microorganisms. According to Safronova, ordinary pure or unsweetened carbonated water is best suited for flowers — the carbon dioxide contained in it helps the bouquet to keep its freshness longer.

Earlier that day, the annual exhibition "Spring in the Tsaritsyno Greenhouses" opened in the greenhouses of the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve. Guests will be able to appreciate the beauty of daffodils of various shapes and colors, hyacinths and hippeastrums, as well as such small bulbous plants as Siberian bulbous, muscari and crocuses, the Moscow City News Agency notes.

On March 2, Alyona Arefyeva, an expert in the field of flower business, told RIAMO that on the eve of March 8, there was a demand not only for tulips and mimosa, but also for primroses and decorative branches of flowering forsythias and magnolias. In addition to tulips, buyers often choose a rose. At the same time, the technique is now popular when the petals are carefully turned outwards: thanks to this, the bud looks more delicate and spectacular.

Yuri Semichastnov, head of courier services at the Flowwow flower and gift marketplace, told Izvestia that the biggest rush to buy flowers falls on the two days before the holiday — March 6 and 7. This year, it is expected that demand on these days will grow 5-10 times compared to the average number of purchases in other periods.

On February 27, the State Duma proposed setting a ceiling on flower prices before March 8, the National News Agency notes. The leader of the Fair Russia party, Sergei Mironov, said that the regular rise in price of flowers before the holidays has no objective reasons and is "an outright and brazen speculation on demand," writes RT.

In March last year, Safronova named the orchid the most unpretentious flower in care. According to her, the plant is resistant to various conditions and retains its fresh appearance for a long time even without special care. Meanwhile, she needs a special fertilizer, notes 360.ru .
