On Wednesday, March 4, the premiere of the series "Young Sherlock", directed and executive produced by Guy Ritchie, will take place on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform. The eight-part project will be a new interpretation of the origin of the legendary detective, showing him not as a disciplined genius, but as a rebellious young man facing a large-scale conspiracy for the first time. About what the series will be like and who will play the main roles — in the Izvestia material.

When will "Young Sherlock" be released

The series will be released on March 4, 2026 on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform in more than 240 countries.

The project was announced in April 2024, but the exact date of the premiere was kept secret until the end of 2025, when the first teaser trailer was unveiled.

The first season will consist of eight episodes. All episodes will be available for viewing at the same time, on the day of the premiere.

Guy Ritchie took over the director's chair, for whom the series about the young detective became a return to the Conan Doyle universe 15 years after the release of the film "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows." The director also acted as an executive producer, overseeing the overall visual style of the project.

The plot of the series "Young Sherlock"

The script of the series is based not on the original short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, but on a series of teen novels by British writer Andy (Andrew) Lane. The series of books about the youth of Sherlock Holmes, created in collaboration with the Conan Doyle Heritage Foundation, includes novels such as "The Cloud of Death", "The Red Leech" and "Black Ice".

The action takes place in Oxford in the 1870s. The plot centers on 19—year-old Sherlock Holmes (Hiro Fiennes-Tiffin), a talented but undisciplined and rude young man. He turns out to be the main suspect in a mysterious murder, and in order to prove his innocence, he is forced to start his own investigation.

"In Young Sherlock, we will see an exciting new version of the detective that everyone seems to already know. But we will show it in a way that no one imagined. We will uncover this mysterious character, find out what motivates him, and find out how he became the genius we all love," said Guy Ritchie.

During the investigation, young Holmes finds himself on the trail of an international conspiracy that will forever change his life and lay the foundations of his legendary deductive method.

The creators of the series deliberately moved away from the image of a sophisticated Baker Street detective. As conceived by Guy Ritchie, this is a story of formation, where the main character is still emotionally unstable and is just learning to think like a detective.

The cast of the series "Young Sherlock"

The casting of the project brought together both young rising stars and venerable actors of British cinema. The central role was played by Hiro Fiennes-Tiffin, known for the films "After", "Ministry of Non-Gentleman Affairs" and the role of young Tom Riddle in "Harry Potter".

The creators of the series have assembled an impressive cast:

  • Colin Firth ("The King's Speech!", "Real Love") — Bucephalus Hodge;
  • Joseph Fiennes ("Shakespeare in Love", "The Handmaid's Tale") — Silas Holmes, Sherlock's father;
  • Natasha McElhone ("The Truman Show", "Ronin") as Cordelia Holmes, Sherlock's mother;
  • Max Irons ("Condor") as Mycroft Holmes, the older brother;
  • Donal Finn ("The Witcher") — James Moriarty.

Of particular interest is the casting decision related to Joseph Fiennes, who played the role of Sherlock's father and Hiro Fiennes-Tiffin, who in real life are uncle and nephew.

It is also worth noting that the iconic character of Dr. Watson will not be in the first season, since Holmes gets to know him in adulthood. His place will be taken by Sir Bucephalus Hodge, played by Colin Firth.

The showrunner and screenwriter of the project was Matthew Parkhill ("The Secret Power"), who reworked Lane's teen novels into a darker and tougher thriller, far from a fairy tale for children. Guy Ritchie, known for his dynamic style, filled the series with expressive dialogues, spectacular editing and an adventurous spirit, while preserving the historical entourage of Victorian England.

Critics about the series "Young Sherlock"

After the preview screening, critics praised "Young Sherlock" — the series garnered 100% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praise the series for its brisk pace, dynamic Richie-style editing, and fidelity to the spirit of the original with new details.
