From hate to love: what movie premieres are waiting for us in March
March is traditionally the month of women and love, so moviegoers are waiting on the screens for beautiful, smart, strong and independent heroines who will surely go through all the trials and — most importantly! — they will find their difficult happiness. The movie poster does not disappoint: Jodie Foster in "Private Life" will finally find mutual understanding with her ex-husband, Karina Razumovskaya ("Tenderly to herself") will learn to love herself and meet someone who wants to share this feeling with her, and even Jessie Buckley ("Bride!") in the role of the revived deceased will find a match for herself. "An outsider"

Algeria, the 1930s. A young employee named Mersault learns of his mother's death and attends her funeral, where, however, he does not shed a tear. He starts an affair with his colleague Maria, who seeks to melt his heart, but he quickly gets bored and breaks up with the girl. An accidental conflict with a local company, during which he kills one of the instigators, leads Mersault to prison, and then to the death sentence, which is eventually caused by his insensitivity at his mother's funeral. There is no logical coherence in these events, it is all a continuous tragedy of the absurd, as well as the original source — the novel of the same name by Albert Camus, transferred by Francois Ozon to the screen with reverent adherence to the original.
The film, which entered last year's Cannes competition, received mixed reviews from critics. In their opinion, the main weakness lies in the literal reproduction of the novel on the screen: more than eight decades after its publication, the public has the right to expect a certain modernity of reading. The main advantage of the film adaptation, of course, was the stunningly beautiful black-and-white video sequence: each frame seems perfectly aligned without a single flaw. The casting is also almost flawless: Benjamin Voisin, who played the main role, is an actor who is incredibly plastic in appearance, and in the image of Meursault he mixes fascinating youthful beauty with hopeless coldness of gaze in a carefully calibrated proportion. After the release of the first film adaptation of The Outsider, directed by Luchino Visconti in 1967, the director admitted that he saw an exceptionally young Alain Delon in the role of Mersault, and only their quarrel during filming forced him to take on the role of a too soft type (and not very age-appropriate) Marcello Mastroiani. Sixty years later, Voisin closed this gestalt.
"To myself tenderly"

She will have to put in a lot of effort to get to know her real self and find her way to happiness...

Melodramas based on popular women's novels with an indispensable happy ending always find a grateful audience — or rather, a female audience. Now Russian cinematographers have gone further, making, it seems, the first film adaptation of motivational literature in history: Olga Primachenko's book, which formed the basis of the script, is a typical collection of motivating advice to "accept your feelings" and "put your desires first." The usual, as the heroine of the film puts it, "tips from the gypsy training manual," which, however, work great if you complain about workload while sitting on a retreat on the seashore, and about the treachery of the male sex with your nose buried in the shoulder of a handsome macho man. So Nadia will certainly follow them, and everything will be fine with her. On March 8, ladies who are tormented by everyday life are required to watch.

The 1930s. Frankenstein's monster, exhausted by loneliness, arrives in Chicago and asks Dr. Euphronius, a great master at working with dead flesh, to create a girlfriend for him. The doctor willingly goes to experiment: together with the monster, they revive a dead girl who gets the name "Bride", and partnering with her completely changes the life of not only Frankenstein's monster, but the whole world. However, if Frankenstein's monster is happy with his newfound love, then many people don't like the changes, and as a result, the monster couple has to run away from the police and look for supporters, organizing a real social revolution...

The 1935 film "Bride of Frankenstein" has repeatedly attracted the attention of cinematographers who thought about remaking, but somehow everything did not work out. And finally, it turned out: Maggie Gyllenhaal resolutely took up the black social comedy, her younger brother Jake immediately joined her, and a whole galaxy of stars followed him — from Penelope Cruz and Christian Bale to Annette Bening and Peter Sarsgaard. The whole company feels good on the screen, producing a full-fledged absurdist comedy in the style of a noir detective story. According to Sarsgaard, the cool mass dances are especially impressive in the film, which, of course, is the best characteristic for a horror film.

Daejun gathers a team that combines the skills of the old school with the capabilities of new technologies, and together with his young colleagues goes on the trail of a bandit who seems invincible and elusive. They will have to learn to trust their colleagues and understand each other from a glance in order to win this battle.

Jodie Foster is a wonder how good she is in the role of a kind investigator, this has been known since the days of "The Silence of the Lambs". Foster is now in her 60s, and her on-screen partner Daniel Otey is in his 70s, but that only seems to make them more excited.: they manage to keep the action on the verge of a serious thriller and a comedic detective story, gracefully but without kinks playing off an age-old pair of amateur detectives who have never had time to fully clarify their relationship in their entire lives. Their acting duo is so good that it's worth going to the movies just for it. The dynamic plot with unexpected twists will not disappoint either.

But everything is not going well: her classmates disliked her, and Polina became the object of harassment. She is saved by the fateful handsome Leopard, a guy with a reputation as an inveterate bully, for whom all high school girls sigh. He and Polina make a deal: they will pretend to be a couple, and the Leopard's reputation will protect Polina, but she will have to agree to his terms. However, gradually the game of love is no longer just a game, and now the two of them will have to defend their right to feelings in front of the whole world...

Teen melodramas about love and friendship are rarely of high artistic value, but they have their own huge audience, which easily provides a huge box office for "American Pie" or "10 reasons to hate me." Finally, Russian cinema has approached the genre: the film is based on the novel of the same name by Anna Jane, the author of teenage romance novels, who became the most published writer in Russia in 2024.: Her books have sold over 2 million copies. There is no need to expect outstanding acting from young artists, and plausible dialogues from screenwriters: this is superfluous here. Cute young faces, knee socks and minis, jeans and T-shirts in flimsy shapes, recognizable school locker rooms, motorcycles, tears on eyelashes and furtive glances and the typical soundtrack of a provincial school disco: the girls in the hall are fiddling with handkerchiefs in their hands — they will have something to cry about. Parents should not worry: the chaste teenage melodrama can only be "Chicken Ryaba".
