Olga Rubleva, a doctor and expert at the analytical center of the Synergy University, said on Monday, March 2, that the risk of mass infection with smallpox in monkeys in Russia remains low.

In an interview with the agency RuNews24.Ru The expert noted that monkey pox can be transmitted through contact with animals — through bites, scratches and cooking. According to her, infection is also possible between people — through close physical contact, through infected objects, skin damage, and from mother to fetus. African countries, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Benin and Cameroon, remain the main foci of the spread of the disease.

Rubleva pointed out that the disease can be both mild and severe, and the incubation period lasts from two to twenty days. In the beginning, weakness, fever, headaches and muscle pain and enlarged lymph nodes appear, followed by a characteristic rash resembling chickenpox, which first appears on the palms and feet, and then spreads throughout the body.

The expert added that in mild cases, symptomatic treatment is used, and in severe cases, anti-inflammatory drugs are used. According to Rospotrebnadzor, the risk of widespread spread of monkeypox remains low, therefore, for prevention, it is recommended to follow hygiene rules, especially when traveling to endemic countries, and consult a doctor at the first symptoms.

On February 16, Gennady Onishchenko, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, said he did not see any risk of the spread of smallpox in the Russian Federation. The main symptoms of monkey pox are fever, body chills and rash, the website writes kp.ru .

On the same day, it was reported that all necessary medical care was being provided in St. Petersburg to two patients infected with monkey pox, writes RIAMO. Doctors assess their condition as moderate, IA Regnum clarifies.

On February 14, it was reported that the number of patients with monkey pox who are being treated at Domodedovo Hospital has increased to three. It is reported that the condition of all patients is assessed as satisfactory, writes Life.ru . They are receiving the necessary medical care and will be discharged after recovery and completion of quarantine, writes NSN.
