Trump is disappointed in Starmer for refusing to provide bases for strikes on Iran
US President Donald Trump was disappointed with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer because on March 1 he banned him from using the air base on Diego Garcia Island to launch strikes against Iran. He said this on March 2 in an interview with The Telegraph newspaper.
"It seems like this has never happened between our countries before <...>. He seemed to be concerned about the legality of the matter. <...> We were very disappointed in Cyrus [Starmer]," the American leader said in an interview with the newspaper.
However, later that day, Starmer changed his position and stated that he would allow the US Air Force access to Diego Garcia for "specific and limited purposes." Commenting on the British Prime minister's change of position regarding the airbase, Trump said that "this is a useful decision, but it took too long."
On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed disappointment at the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran on Tehran's nuclear program. He noted that Russia is in constant contact with the Iranian leadership and discusses the situation around the conflict.
