RCN demanded to remove more than 35 thousand illegal materials from Telegram
Roskomnadzor has sent demands to the Telegram messenger to remove more than 35.6 thousand illegal materials since the beginning of 2026, including child pornography and information on ways to circumvent blockages. This was reported to TASS on February 27 by the press service of the department.
"Based on court decisions and decisions of authorized bodies, since the beginning of 2025, demands have been sent to Telegram for the removal of about 305 thousand materials (in 2025 — more than 269.2 thousand, in 2026 — more than 35.6 thousand)," the message says.
According to the agency, from the beginning of 2025 to the beginning of February 2026, a significant amount of prohibited content was identified and had to be removed. The largest share was made up of materials with child pornography (145.6 thousand), pro-drug content (112.6 thousand) and information related to blocking circumvention (35.5 thousand).
There were also cases of the dissemination of materials about suicide (11.1 thousand), childfree propaganda (50), information about the manufacture of weapons and explosives (70), as well as data on minors who were victims of crimes (12). Most of the identified content occurred in 2025.
Roskomnadzor stressed that work to restrict access to illegal information on the Web is carried out constantly, and when such materials are identified, notifications are sent demanding their removal.
On February 26, Roskomnadzor confirmed that the agency has no additional comments regarding the possible blocking of Telegram in April 2026.
The head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Maksut Shadaev, announced on February 18 that the Telegram messenger had ignored 150,000 requests to delete information prohibited in Russia. This was the reason that Roskomnadzor decided to slow down the social network due to violations of the legislation of the Russian Federation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 11 that the legislative measures taken in Russia regarding Telegram must be implemented. He also noted that the Kremlin is aware of contacts with representatives of the messenger.
