Olga Gulyaeva, HR and Corporate Culture Director at Adviros HR company, told Izvestia on February 26 about approaches to supporting women returning to work after maternity leave and the impact of this process on the corporate environment.

According to the expert, in a company where more than 80% of employees are female, support for employees coming out of maternity leave is a priority. The employer encourages early retirement from parental leave and offers flexible employment formats. Women can work in part-time mode, as well as choose a hybrid format, if the functionality of the position allows it.

The expert noted that early retirement from maternity leave has a positive effect on the career trajectory.

"Three years outside of professional life is a critical time for business today. During this time, business processes, knowledge and skills requirements, and market trends change. Returning after a long period, the employee actually has to re—adapt and catch up with colleagues," she stressed.

At the same time, the specialist does not observe a tendency to choose full-time employment instead of remote or hybrid work. On the contrary, according to her, women tend to remain flexible after maternity leave, at least initially. This is due to the need to build family processes: to adapt the child to kindergarten, to organize the help of a babysitter or relatives, to establish a new rhythm of life. In addition, not all families have the opportunity to pay for babysitting services, so part-time employment and hybrid remain the most popular formats.

The growing number of women returning to work before the end of maternity leave is also affecting corporate culture. Companies are strengthening the principles of loyalty and flexibility towards employees, taking into account their role as a mother, which is not limited to the working day. Remote work opportunities are expanding, and tasks can be completed on weekends if necessary.

Additionally, wellbeing programs are being developed: webinars with doctors are being held, initiatives to support a healthy lifestyle are being implemented, children's parties and New Year's gifts are being organized for the children of employees. According to Gulyaeva, it is the integrated approach that allows companies to retain valuable specialists and form a sustainable, human-oriented corporate culture.

Anna Pokrovskaya, an assistant professor at the Department of Civil Law and Procedure and Private International Law, Patent Attorney of the Russian Federation, said on February 6 that if a woman worked during maternity leave, she can take vacations during or after maternity leave, which she has accumulated. According to her, maternity leave for up to three years of age is taken into account in the length of service, which grants the right to annual paid leave.
