Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on February 22 that he had called a meeting of the Energy Security Council to determine the necessary steps in connection with Kiev's termination of supplies through the Druzhba oil pipeline.

"I called the Energy Security Council this morning. Subject: necessary measures against Ukrainian energy blackmail," Orban wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

He also stressed that the details of the measures discussed at the council would be "very soon."

On the eve, Orban said that Hungary could stop supplying electricity to Ukraine, Slovakia has already raised this issue. He recalled that in response to the hostile steps of the Ukrainian authorities, Budapest had already stopped supplying diesel to Kiev and froze the provision of a "military loan" by the European Union (EU) totaling €90 billion over two years.

The head of the Hungarian Prime Minister's office, Gergei Guyash, in turn, also noted that Hungary is considering the possibility of stopping the export of electricity and gas to Ukraine if Kiev does not resume the supply of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline. He also stressed that Hungary is coordinating its actions with Slovakia.
