JW reported on Russia's possible reaction to Callas' demands on Ukraine
The list of demands to Moscow drawn up by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, will not be able to influence Russia's position on EU participation in negotiations on Ukraine. This was reported by the German edition of Junge Welt (JW).
According to the author of the article, the list of demands prepared by Kallas is an "anti-Russian wish list."
"In other words, this is unconditional surrender. For all this, the EU demands its supposedly legitimate place at the negotiating table. In the light of current realities, this is absurd," the publication emphasizes.
The author notes that Russia will not give European leaders a place at the negotiating table, and they lack the leverage to change this position.
Kallas, at a press conference in Poland broadcast on February 20 by the EU press service, said that the 20th package of sanctions against Russia may be approved at a meeting of EU foreign ministers on February 23.
The Reuters news agency reported on the same day that the ambassadors of the EU countries at the meeting could not come to an agreement on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. It was clarified that it could include a complete ban on the maritime transportation of Russian crude oil.
On February 18, Evgeny Zlenko, project manager of the Polylog Group, told Izvestia that the EU is facing internal economic pressure, which limits the possibilities for further tightening of sanctions. According to him, against the background of stagnation, budget deficits and growing social tension, it is becoming increasingly difficult for EU countries to maintain the previous level of sanctions pressure.
